Hyperbaric oxygen therapy works by a straightforward physical principle: breathing pure oxygen at pressures above atmospheric levels greatly increases the amount of oxygen dissolved in your plasma. At sea level, haemoglobin carries nearly all the oxygen in your blood, and plasma oxygen is minimal. At 1.5 to 2.0 ATA (the pressures used in our sessions), plasma oxygen rises 10 to 15 times above normal, and this dissolved oxygen can reach tissues with poor circulation.
A single HBOT session raises tissue oxygen levels and, on return to normal pressure, triggers signalling through hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF), which is linked to new blood vessel formation. In a small study, a single 2-hour exposure at 2.0 ATA doubled circulating CD34+ progenitor (stem) cells, and a course of 20 treatments increased them about eightfold (Thom SR et al., American Journal of Physiology: Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 2006). That study used longer sessions than ours, and what these changes mean for health outcomes is not established.
The clinical effects of HBOT, where they exist, depend on the condition and the number of sessions. Our 10-session course is a shorter, more accessible option for recovery goals. It is not designed to reproduce the longer protocols used in research.
Each session lasts 60 minutes at 1.5 to 2.0 ATA, 3 to 5 times per week. Your physician may suggest this course for post-surgical wound healing, sports injury recovery or, after specialist assessment, persistent symptoms after mild brain injury. Most HBOT research in concussion and in healthy older adults has used much longer courses. For example, a 2020 randomised trial from the Israeli group led by Professor Shai Efrati found improved attention, processing speed and cerebral blood flow in 63 healthy adults over 64 after a three-month course (Hadanny A et al., Aging). A 10-session course is far shorter than that, and we do not claim it produces the same effects.
You are monitored by trained staff throughout every session. Your physician reviews your response at sessions 5 and 10 and discusses whether a longer course is justified for your specific goal. Book a consultation with our longevity physician to decide which HBOT course, if any, matches your goals.
