Low energy that sleep does not fix

Tired all the time, and your last test was normal.

Tiredness is one of the most common reasons people see a doctor, and one of the hardest to pin down. Some causes show up in blood. Many do not. The aim is to find the ones that do, rule them in or out, and be honest about the rest.

In Indian context

Why it is worth a closer look.

  • The causes doctors look for first include anaemia, iron deficiency even without anaemia, an underactive or overactive thyroid, diabetes, sleep disorders and depression.1
  • Anaemia affects 57% of Indian women aged 15–49.2
  • Vitamin D runs low in many Indian city dwellers, and B12 comes almost only from animal foods, which matters if you are vegetarian.3,4

What we look at

The markers, and why each one.

Which tests

Where those numbers come from.

What a physician does with it

In the 60-minute consultation, a physician goes through your sleep, work, food, periods, medicines and mood before your results, because the blood only answers part of the question. If something needs a specialist or a test we do not run, you are told and referred.

The evidence, honestly

What testing can show, and what it can’t.

What the evidence supports

  • Blood tests can find common, treatable causes such as anaemia, low iron, low B12 and an underactive thyroid.1,5
  • Reading HbA1c beside haemoglobin and ferritin avoids a sugar result that anaemia has distorted.6

What it does not support

  • Normal results do not mean the tiredness is imagined. Sleep disorders, low mood and long-term stress do not show up on a blood panel.1
  • No supplement or drip is a fix for unexplained tiredness. What helps depends on the cause, and a physician decides that with you.

General education, not advice for you. What suits you depends on your results and history, and a physician decides it with you.

Questions people ask.

My last blood test was normal. Why test again?

A routine panel often leaves out ferritin, B12, vitamin D and thyroid tests, and it reads results against wide population ranges. A normal haemoglobin, for example, does not show whether iron stores are running low.

Could it just be stress or poor sleep?

It could, and those are real causes, not a brush-off. The point of testing is to rule the measurable causes in or out so the conversation about sleep and stress starts from facts.

Do I need to fast before the test?

Yes, for the full panel. Fasting matters for glucose, insulin and triglycerides. You will get instructions when you book.
