Your body is roughly 60 percent water, and even mild dehydration — as little as a two-percent drop in total body water — measurably impairs cognitive performance, mood, and cardiovascular efficiency. A 2012 study published in the Journal of Nutrition demonstrated that mild dehydration in young women produced headaches, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating, outcomes that oral rehydration corrected only slowly because the gut absorbs fluid at a limited rate.
Intravenous hydration bypasses the gastrointestinal bottleneck entirely. A Basic Hydration IV delivers one litre of isotonic crystalloid solution — sodium chloride or Ringer's lactate — directly into the bloodstream alongside a balanced electrolyte profile (sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium) that mirrors your body's own extracellular fluid. Cellular rehydration begins within minutes rather than the one to two hours required by oral intake.
This drip is our most-requested service for three specific scenarios. First, hangover recovery: alcohol suppresses antidiuretic hormone (ADH), causing disproportionate fluid loss through the kidneys. Replacing that fluid intravenously, combined with electrolyte correction, addresses the dehydration component of a hangover far faster than water and sports drinks. Second, jet-lag and travel fatigue: cabin humidity on commercial flights averages 10-20 percent, and passengers can lose up to 1.5 litres of water on a long-haul flight without realizing it. Third, pre- and post-event hydration for athletes, professionals preparing for high-stakes presentations, or anyone who simply needs to feel sharp and functional quickly.
The infusion takes approximately 30 minutes, is administered by a trained nurse under physician oversight, and requires no preparation or recovery time. We use medical-grade fluids sourced from licensed pharmaceutical suppliers. While this is our simplest IV offering, it remains one of the most physiologically impactful — because adequate hydration is the prerequisite for every other biological process working optimally. How quickly will I feel the effects of a hydration IV?
Most patients report feeling noticeably better within 15-20 minutes of the infusion starting. Full rehydration is achieved by the end of the 30-minute session. Compare this to oral rehydration, which typically takes 1-2 hours to produce similar effects because the gut absorbs fluid at a limited rate.
Is a hydration IV just saline? Why not just drink water?
It is a medical-grade isotonic solution with balanced electrolytes — not tap water in a bag. The advantage over oral intake is speed and completeness of absorption. Drinking a litre of water sends much of it through the kidneys before cells can absorb it. IV delivery puts fluid directly into the bloodstream where it can distribute to tissues immediately.
How often can I get a hydration IV?
For most healthy adults, weekly sessions are safe and common among our regular patients. Event-driven use (travel, hangovers, athletic events) can be done as needed. Your physician will review your health history and kidney function before recommending a frequency.
